Starting care here follows three clear steps: a free orientation, your first visit, then transferring fully into our care. Every family begins with an orientation, so you can see the space, understand how we work, and decide whether SolHaven is right for you before you commit to anything.
Your first step is a free orientation, held in a small group. You will see a short presentation on how we care for families, take a tour of the birth center, and have plenty of time for questions. You can attend in person or over Zoom. If SolHaven feels like a fit, you can schedule your first visit from there. Starting in August, orientations are held on the first Thursday of the month at 6 p.m. and the third Monday of the month at noon.
Your first visit runs about 90 minutes. You will start with our office manager to handle financial paperwork, then spend the clinical portion with your midwife, not a nurse. This is where your relationship with your care team begins. You will also receive a client handbook to guide you through what is ahead.
If you are already pregnant and want to switch to SolHaven, you are welcome to transfer into our care up to 38 weeks of pregnancy. We will make the move as smooth as possible so you can settle into the care you want for the rest of your pregnancy.
SolHaven is a small, intimate midwifery practice serving southern Minnesota, founded by Sarah Barbosa and New Birth Midwifery. SolHaven grew into an independent practice in the summer of 2026 to specialize in serving the Southern MN community. Like its sister birth center, New Birth Wellness Center, we emphasize individualized care and a team that knows you well before your birth.
