Wade
With our second baby we had the blessing of meeting Taylor as well through our prenatal care. One of my favorite memories of working with them both is from when our second was born and I had the opportunity to catch him in another beautiful water birth.

We initially met Sarah when I was pregnant with our first. We had prayed through several years of infertility and were certainly not prepared for pregnancy. After a couple hospital appointments, we opted to meet with Sarah to see if home birth would be a better fit for our family. After that visit, we knew right away that we would transfer our care and deliver our baby at home. We felt completely at ease and supported through every question we had (which was a lot). Sarah supported us through every question and concern and walked alongside me through 13 hours of labor before delivery our baby girl in a beautiful water birth.

Our son Wade made a grand entrance at 38 weeks. I had no idea I would be going into labor that night, although the entire pregnancy I had a “feeling” baby would come early. I had gone to work, gotten a hair cut, worked in the garden, and visited with friends that night – at 8pm I was still saying “I’m due in a couple weeks, but I think this baby might come before that.”

At about 10pm I was laying in bed and noticed my back was aching. I figured that was just from working in the garden. But then it started to move forward and seemed to come and go. By 11pm I figured I better start timing these aches – sure enough, they were consistent contractions. About 11:30pm I decided to wake my husband and call our midwife, Sarah. She was on her way home from another birth and assured me she was just a call away when I wanted her to head our way. I decided to take a bath and see if my contractions would calm down, but they did not. They ramped in intensity and by 12:30am I knew it was real labor and called Sarah to head our way. Sarah and her second midwife arrived about 1:20am. I could not sit or stand still and no one could touch or console me. I was in my own zone and labored in our bathroom alone for the most part. Just before 3am I transferred to the birth pool and within the next few contractions I was pushing baby’s head out. I caught baby’s head on my own and Sarah helped unwrap baby’s cord and my husband was able to help as baby’s body was born. That was the moment we could see we had a baby boy and we were both flooded with emotions. He was here, 2 weeks early. His sister slept through the entire birth in the next room & woke in the morning to a baby brother.

We have been incredibly blessed to have Sarah support us through the pregnancy and birth of all 3 of our children. Her care, compassion, and composure is such a gift.
