ABOUT SOLHAVEN

A smaller practice, built on purpose

SolHaven Birth Center is a midwife-led birth center and home birth practice in North Mankato, founded by Sarah Barbosa. It is small by design. Sarah built SolHaven so that every family could know their whole care team well before birth, with the kind of time and attention that only a smaller practice can offer. This is care rooted in relationship, on the southern Minnesota prairie.

Born from a trusted legacy
SolHaven grew out of New Birth Midwifery and it’s deep roots serving families in the southern metro area under Sarah and Jenny’s leadership. As New Birth restructured, Sarah opened SolHaven as her own chapter, a sister birth center carrying the same relationship-centered care into a new home in Mankato. Familiar midwives came with her, including Taylor Matakis and Emily Parks, so families arriving here are not meeting a team of strangers. They are meeting people who have cared for families for years.
Birth is normal, and you should feel known

We believe birth is a normal, healthy process that deserves patience and respect. We believe in informed consent and shared decisions, where you are the one steering your care. And we believe the relationship between a family and its midwife is the heart of safe, supported birth. Those beliefs shape every visit, every choice, and every birth we attend.

Walking alongside families as they welcome new life

At SolHaven Birth Center, we believe every family deserves care built on relationship, compassion, and trust. Inspired by the hope of each sunrise and the promise of new beginnings, we walk alongside families as they welcome new life.

Accredited and accountable

SolHaven Birth Center is accredited by the Commission for the Accreditation of Birth Centers. Accreditation reflects a real standard of safety and quality, and we hold ourselves to it.
